Baby Shower Gift Ideas

I’m not a naturally creative person, I find it really hard to come up with things like baby shower gift ideas. I’m 27 years old and have a three year old daughter, so baby showers are a pretty common occurrence at the moment. A few years ago, when I had my daughter I was the first of my friends and siblings to have a child. I think this was the reason I got so many unique gifts.

My friends really struggled to come up with baby shower gift ideas for me when I was pregnant. When I first found out I was pregnant with my daughter I had never been to a baby shower before. I didn’t know that you were supposed to let your friends buy you all the big practical things for your new baby. I went out and bought a crib, playpen, change table, clothes, diapers and everything else imaginable long before the shower.

Clothes and toys are always great baby shower gift ideas. My friend Marissa is great with a sewing machine. She made me a dressing gown that said ‘Mom To Be’ on it. Once my daughter was born she made her some beautiful jumpsuits.

My family all pooled their money together to buy me some really nice amethyst earrings and a matching ring. They said since I had everything I needed their baby shower gift ideas were just to spoil me. It was nice, once you have a newborn you don’t get to think about yourself for a while. Another friend bought me and my husband a gift voucher for a day spa, a nice treat we indulged in before the birth.

Another lovely baby shower gift ideas include a memory book. My cousin bought me a scrap booking album. She completed the first few pages, there were some photos of my wedding day along with a few of me looking very pregnant. After the birth I filled up the album with pictures of my new baby.

If you are stuck for baby shower gift ideas why not try vouchers? I remember receiving a voucher for an online photo shop. Once my daughter was born my husband uploaded some photos to the site. We had them enlarged and printed onto canvas. Her newborn pictures are now beautiful works of art that we hang on out wall.

My old college friend Michael came up with some very unconventional baby shower gift ideas for me and my husband. Michael is a graphic designer, he is very creative. He gave me an envelope at the shower, inside were tattoo designs he had drawn himself of the name we had chosen for our daughter. I never dreamed I would get a tattoo, but Michael’s gift really touched me.

A month after my daughter was born, both me and my husband got matching tattoos. Mine is on my back, so no one really ever sees it, but I know it is there. Well, hopefully reading through some of the more unusual presents I received will give other people some creative baby shower gift ideas. I know that I treasured every gift I received, no matter how big or small.
