Baby Shower Gift
I love finding the perfect baby shower gift when my friends and family are expecting. My daughter Elly is now two, it seems for the past few years I’ve done nothing but attend baby showers. Not that I’m complaining, I love babies, and there is nothing more special and celebrating an impending birth with your loved ones.
All around the world, mothers are thrown a baby shower in anticipation of an impending birth. At a traditional shower light refreshments and finger food are served. Showers are for the most part attended by women. Fun games are played and a baby shower gift presented to the expecting Mom.
I find it really hard to keep coming up with original baby shower gift ideas. You don’t want to show up with the same gift as everyone else. Or worse, the gift everyone noticed you brining to the last four showers you attended.
My sister is pregnant at the moment, due in only a few weeks now. I had no idea what to get her as a baby shower gift. It is my sister’s first child which made it all the more special. I really wanted to give her something that would become treasured by herself and her child in years to come.
A popular tradition for a baby shower gift is to give the parents practical items. A change table, car seat or playpen are all common gifts. Some parents will even have a baby shower registry. Because of medical reasons, my husband and I would not be having any more children, we had given Elly’s baby things to my sister. This mean she already had a lot of the big practical things you need for a new baby.
Any parent will tell you that you can never have enough baby basics. With this in mind they are always going to make a great baby shower gift. Things like onesies, diapers and bibs are always going to be needed. I considered putting together a gift basket for the baby filled with essential items. The reason I decided not to was that it wasn’t something that could be kept forever.
The baby shower gift you choose really depends on your relationship with the parents. If I was attending a shower for a work colleague then I think a gift basket would be a great idea. However when you are buying a baby shower gift for someone close to you then you really want to choose something personal.
I found the perfect baby shower gift for my sister while at my local shopping mall. I was casually browsing in a jewelry shop when a tiny gold bracelet caught my eye. It was a link bracelet with an ID plate big enough to write a name and birth date. I bought the bracelet for my sister’s soon to be newborn, and an adult sized version for her. This way my sister and her child could have the same bracelet.
While it can be hard to find the right baby shower gift, sometimes you just need to persevere to find the right thing. You never now when it might jump out and find you!
