Gifts for New Baby

After I gave birth to my first child I received some wonderful newborn baby gifts. Simon was a beautiful boy, he was also very spoilt. He was our first child, and also the first grandchild for my parents, so you can imagine how excited all my friends and family were.

Throughout my pregnancy it never occurred to me that I would receive so many newborn baby gifts. I was really overwhelmed by the kindness of my family and friends. I was also impressed with some of the originality that many of them showed.

One of my more artistically gifted friends gave me and my husband an oil painting as a newborn baby gift. It was a scene of Tuscany. Not wanting a big wedding, my husband and I had eloped there. We hung it up in the nursery, it looked perfect. One day it would be something that my son could hang in his own home.

My father made us a toy chest with Simons name engraved into the front of it. It was made of beautiful Oak and had an upholstered leather lid, so Simon could also use it as a seat when he was big enough. It was lovely, because it was a personalized newborn baby  gift, but also because of the time and effort put into it.

Of course, newborn baby gifts don’t need to be big to be meaningful. My sister gave me a tiny gold ID bracelet for my son, with his name engraved. My brother gave me a voucher for a day spa, he said he was pretty sure I would need it.

I received plenty of baby basics as newborn baby gifts. Lots of my friends bought baby clothes. I’m sure that I have more baby clothes than Simon will ever wear! A girlfriend from work bought a beautiful winter jacket in size one. I’m sure that Simon will get a few years wear out of it.

I also got lots of things like diapers, bibs and booties as newborn baby gifts. These are very handy to have a lot of, as any new parent will tell you. I can’t say exactly how many bibs Simon goes through in a day but it is a lot! If I’m ever in doubt of what to buy a friend who is a new parent, I always get them some good quality baby basics.

I noticed that many people bought personalized newborn baby gifts. My internet skills are pretty basic, so I didn’t realize the great variety of baby gifts that you can find online. Simon has a romper suit with his name on it. He also has a personalized piggy bank and a growth chart. While these are fun for him now, I’m hoping when he is older he will keep them.

Out of all the newborn baby gifts I received, these were the ones that really touched my heart the most. If you are looking to find the perfect gift, just spend some time thinking about the baby and the parents as well as your relationship with them. You will find the perfect gift.
