Gifts for New Baby

Personalized baby items make a great addition to any nursery. Whether you are looking for a gift or simply wanting to commemorate the birth of your own child, having something created just for them is a meaningful way to celebrate.

My husband and I left a large gap between out two children, six years in fact. When our eldest was born personalized baby items were few and far between. If it was possible to have something personalized for your child I am guessing it would have been very expensive. By the time our youngest was born, times had changed. Nowadays, you can pretty much get anything you can imagine personalized.

When our second child was born we were showered with many wonderful personalized baby items. Our son was given a wooden toy chest with his name engraved into the front of it. Part of the reason I liked this gift so much is that it will be used for my son’s whole life. He doesn’t have to always put toys in it. One day he can give it to his own children to use.

Some of the most touching personalized baby items I received were special because they were made just for my son. My father in law is a carpenter and cabinet maker by trade, so he is very good with his hands. He takes great pride in his craftsmanship. He lives close to a forest, when I first found out I was pregnant, he noticed a tree had fallen in the forest. It was a beautiful old Oak, he used the wood to make a rocking chair which is now in our nursery,

Of course, if you are buying personalized baby items as a gift, bigger doesn’t mean better. There are many smaller and more affordable items that are just as special. As a parent, just seeing that someone had taken the time and trouble to have an item personalized just for my son was very meaningful to me and my husband, and once he is older I’m sure my son will treasure these items as well.

A friend gave me some personalized baby items that I keep on my mantel piece and admire every day. There are three photo frames, handmade with beautiful handy work to them. The first says my son’s name, the second says first smile and the third says first steps. My friend gave me the three frames shortly after I gave birth. As our son got older and reached these milestones we took pictures to place inside the frame.

I struggle to think of personalized baby items that you can’t find online or in store. I have seen romper suits, cutlery sets, piggy banks and growth charts just to name a few. With so many choices, when you are buying a personalized baby items as  gifts you will be sure to be the only person to buy it as a gift.

Whenever I struggle to find the right gift for a baby shower or when a friend has given birth, I always look for the right personalized baby items.
